System2: Freestyle Descriptive. My personal favorite and something of a rare thing online. Its basicly a combination of what I like about turn based along with what I like about speed, there are no 'turns' so to speak but its still not up to speed. Explanation? sure. When combat begins, a character can do as much as they like (Taking into account that all posts are to be described well.) However, as soon as they do something that may or may not affect the opponent they have to stop and wait for a reaction. AKA, you may run up in one post, and throw the punch in another post straight after, but you must wait until the opponent reacts and says how the punch landed before you can post another attack. (Or really even another movement because often martial artists will counter the punch with a blow of their own. Remember you may only put one attack in a post. Saying that you slash at them multiple times is fruitless if they block your weapon on the first slash. If the fighters manage to send out an attack post at the same time AND the posts are incompatible its good manners to go with the post that showed up first. (Ignoring the second place .) Remember though that it is NOT a contest of speed, throwing out rapid attack posts constantly will just frustrate the opponent, if asked to stop, stop. Remember that without OOC cooperation IC roleplay is not possible. |

Good
points: Not turn based, it means attacks may be posted one after another should the first blow disorientate the opponent enough. Allows for movement and non-attack posts in the works such as diving for cover, reloading and making that long anime shout out name of prepared attack. Slows the use of magic and makes swordplay much better. Easier to incorporate more fighters into the combat. Bad points: Suffers from 'You attacks do nothing to me'-itis frequently against bad fighters. Little known system, far from popular in most places. Frustration. |

Example posts: Warrior: OOC: Freestyle descriptive? Wizard: OOC: Sure, whatever. Warrior: OOC: I'll begin. ** Warrior draws his weapon menacingly and charges at wizard raising it high in the air. ** ** Wizard appears shocked for a moment, stepping back he begins chanting a spell. ** ** Warrior brings his sword down heavily towards wizard as soon as he's within range. He aims for the head. ** ** Wizard rushes through the spell, at the last moment casting a shield of magic. The sword stops on the shield as he stands there wondering what to do. ** Uh oh, wizard pulled a spell out of his hat... which is not that bad at all! As long as he keeps in mind it defaults to his magic skill, and wears down over time (As all defenses do, faster under direct attack.) And it works both ways, AKA when things cant get in, things cant get out. ** Warrior growls and begins slashing at the barrier rapidly. ** ** Wizard begins to chant again as the barrier weakens with each blow. ** ** Wizards waits until the exact moment the barrier breaks to step forward. Ducking under the sword slash and casting shock bolt at Warrior's chest. ** ** Warrior is knocked off his feet by the electrical attack, falling backwards with a thud. ** ** Wizard draws his dagger and plunges onto warrior, stabbing at his neck. ** ** Warrior rolls and scrambles back away from wizard. ** Hmm, the last to posts were posted at the same time however the wizards' post happened first so it would be polite for the warrior to disregard his post and type a new one. Warrior: OOC: Hold on, let me retype that last post. ** Warrior rolls to the left from the plunging wizard scrambling back to his feet he raises his sword in a clumsy manner again. ** ** Wizard abandons his knife which stuck into the ground and scrambles away from Warrior's sword. ** Notice that though the Wizard dodged the attack still cost him something. His knife, its expected that he no longer has one until he retrieves it from the ground there. That's about all for that fight, Its hard to demonstrate the flow of the battle in a still media like this. Just remember that in this style whenever you do something that may affect your opponent, directly or indirectly you need to give them time to respond. (AKA, when you attack them, or try affecting one of their objectives.) |
